Plans to renovate Peoria Stadium could be heating up soon.

The idea of commercially zoning part of the stadium property for an electronic advertising sign and the addition of a stadium store, to generate revenue for renovations, was originally met with concerns from the neighborhood residents.

But after multiple public hearings with the neighbors and the city of Peoria Zoning and Planning Commission, an intergovernmental agreement has been reached. The agreement between the Peoria Public School board, the neighborhood association and the zoning commision is to recommend the property be rezoned as neighboorhood-commercial.

The idea for the 8-foot-by-13-foot sign that would be placed beneath the stadium’s iconic wooden, football-shaped sign, as well as the stadium store, came from the student-led entrepreneurial training program AppsCo founded by Alexis Khazzam.
