Cacti and succulents have become very popular in recent years, so why not make one. Here is how to make your own cactus pin cushion. I originally got this from another site, and the link to the original post is at the bottom of this page.
What You Will Need:
- Green and Brown Felt
- Green Thread / Embroidery Floss
- Floral Foam Cone
- Flower Pot
- Hot Glue
- Needle / Sewing Machine
- Straight Pins (for decoration)
1. Trace 6 Squares with Rounded Tops on the Green Felt
2. Cut Them Out
3. Sew Together
Place 2 together, good sides together, and sew along the outer edge, leaving the bottom open.
Tip: I did all of my sewing by hand, but using a sewing machine, if you have one, will be much faster and easier.
4. Stack Together and Sew
Sew all 3 pairs of sides together down the middle.
5. Stuff The Side Openings
6. Sew the Bottom Holes Closed
This is to keep the stuffing from getting out, and makes it easier to keep everything neat.
7. Trace the Top of the Flower Pot onto the Ground Felt
Tip: I used a more green felt as my ground color, but you can use any color you would like, such as a brown for dirt or a more tan color for sand.
8. Cut it Out
9. Sew (or Glue) Cactus to the Ground Circle
10. Cut the Floral Cone to Fit the Flower Pot
Tip: If you cut the cone to just below the top of the pot, it will look more like the cactus is actually in the flower pot.
11. Glue the Cactus and Ground Felt onto the Foam
Tip: My piece of foam did not fit how i would have liked it to in the pot, so I added strips of felt around the cone to make it sit higher up in the flower pot.
12. Decorate with Pins
Here is where I got the original version of this craft. It includes two additional designs for the cactus. Credit goes to the original poster.
